The Pearl in the Oyster

I will seek for the pearl in the oyster shell

I will accept life like an oyster, where there are bound to be rough edges, sharp points and jagged moments, although temporary compared to the beauty evolving within.

I want the pearl in the oyster shell.

The enjoyment of relationships with others, sharing wisdom and knowledge with those who would take time to listen, sharing Tea Ceremony, appreciating my wife's flower arrangements, watering the flower bed and tending my garden, Practicing calligraphy and Japanese.

I continue to find the treasure hidden in the oyster shell

I will not step up on a soap box, lecture your ear off, or desire to be the center of attention.

I will not need a plaque with my name engraved on it, nor do I care if my name is honorably mentioned,

all I will gain will be the pearl in the oyster.

  2. Dainin Katagiri said "You can dedicate your life to becoming an artist or you can forget about your life and dedicate yourself to art. There is a big difference.

Both Dainin and Osho are saying the same thing Zen is art. But more than just "Zen is art", it is having the ability to see the poetry and art in everyday life, in the simplest of things. Zen is seeing that Ordinary Magic is the true miracle of life.

Osho also said that "Zen is a religion of beauty" and "Because beauty is the heartbeat of Zen it has been more creative. It has created great poetry, great paintings. It has transformed ordinary things like archery or swordsmanship into meditation. It is not a non-creative religion; it has created and added to the beauty of existence".

Thank you sharing this quote from Osho Gerard San. I do enjoy his teachings.

  4. Just look at existence and its abundance. What is the need of so many flowers in the world? Just roses would have been enough, but existence is abundant: millions and millions of flowers, millions of birds, millions of animals — everything in abundance. Nature is not ascetic; it is everywhere dancing — in the ocean, in the trees. It is everywhere singing — in the wind passing through the pine trees, in the birds…
Except man … no trees have any habits, nor birds, nor fish. The whole nature is spontaneous. It simply functions when it is needed, it stops functioning and remains simply silent when it is not needed. In fact, according to me this is sanity: to do only that much as is needed. Even to go a single inch further and you have moved beyond sanity, you have become insane. And there is no end to insanity
